When it comes to the art of grooming, there is no better classic line than "A Shave and a Haircut..." and that is exactly what we do. Finding a cut that works for your style is The Shave Cave's specialty, and our barbers can execute any polished look. With the evolution of men's styles over the last few years, we are seeing a lot more of some flowing and natural looks, but with a wink at some old school styles.

What's Your Style

Balancing the right cut with the right facial hair is essential to rocking a modern and polished look, and here in the heart of Downtown St. Pete, styles are seen all over the city. Now of course any style can be customized and adapted to suit your individual preferences and features.

In 2024, we are seeing both sides of a trend-coin, where one side is easy, natural, and low maintenance, while the other side of the coin is more intentional, polished, and styled. Either way, they are looking fresh and on point. So let's explore some great haircut and facial hair combinations, and let us know what appeals to you:

Men's Shave and A Haircut Style Guide 2024

Short and classic

  • The Classic Fade: Gradual transition from longer to shorter hair for a seamless look. Whether you are looking for a high fade, or a low fade, this can look good with various facial hair styles, including a clean-shaven appearance. If you have a heart-shaped, triangular, rectangular, or rounded facial features, a short fade with some texture on top is a great go-to.
  • The Crew Cut: Short on top, and even shorter on the side with a high fade. Usually the crew cut pairs well with manicured stubble, or clean-shaven. But to be honest, if you have a great shaped head, and attractive features, add any beard. It works.
  • The Buzz Cut: Similar to the Crew Cut, but with a short, uniform length cut all over the head. This style is usually very low maintenance, along with a usually clean-shaven appearance. Think military.
  • French Crop: This style is really making its way through 2024, where it is short on the sides like a crew cut, but longer with a more piecey, textured top... we could consider this like a modern Caesar cut. One could rock a clean shaven look, or a shorter beard that is well cropped and structured.
  • The Side Part: Old money perfection where the hair is combed to one side, creating a classic and timeless look. It can be paired with various facial hair styles, from clean-shaven to a full beard. This style looks amazing on everyone, every face shape.

Getting a little more textured...

  • The Quiff: This can have a lot of variety, depending on the length, texture, the level of maintenance you are willing to put into it. If you want to keep a tight fade, you will be visiting us every 2-3 weeks. If you keep the sides a little longer, you will stretch your visits. A Quiffed cut will let you rock a messy tousled look, or a combed pompadour, however you want to wear it, this is a very popular cut this year. A well manicured beard, mustache, or both all look killer with the Quiff.
  • Messy Fringe: Low fade on the temples and back with medium length on top. This is the "going with the flow" look, and works really well with textured, curly, or wavy hair. If you have a rounder face, this style looks great with a beard and mustache together.
  • Modern Mullet: Where the Mullet meets the Faux Hawk. Shorter and textured on top, then a taper and fade to the temple with the back side low and outside the neck. This style looks great with some fringe or if you have a natural wave to your hair. This style looks great with a strong hairline, or a receding hairline one, believe it or not. Rock it with a beard, or go full max with a mustache.

Getting a little longer...

  • Flowy: Letting the hair grow all over. Last year a lot of men started to let their hair grow out naturally. Once at or past a medium length, you can keep it playful and messy, a little like a surfer, allowing some curtaining to happen in the front. Think of a "Shaggy" that showers. This only works for those with thick hair, or hair with natural volume. I do not recommend this look if your hair is thinning.
  • Slicked Back: With medium to long hair, a classic slick back has been reincarnated into 2024. After the shower, use your product, slick it back, and go about your day. You will want to make sure you use a product with a high hold, but NOT a gel. With longer hair in general, one may recommend a shorter beard, or clean shaven depending on your face shape and features.
  • The Man Bun: That's right ladies and gentlemen. If you grew your hair out last year, you are on trend this year. There is the Messy Bun, Top Knot, or the Sumo. To have a refined Man Bun, make sure to pull it back nice and tie it up.
